Camdyn Gilbert has been a volunteer at The Red Barn for over a year and a half. She is a hard worker and we can tell she loves being here by her dedication and hard work. Camdyn's sweet and quiet personality puts the students and horses she works with at ease. We are grateful for the blessing she is to the barn!
Judy Wade is a volunteer that brings her heart and expertise to the barn every single week! A school teacher for 26 years, she recently retired and wanted to volunteer to help fill her time. We are so thankful she has! When working with our students each week, she offers amazing advice and comes ready to do anything that our staff needs. We all hope Judy enjoys us as much as we enjoy her!
Catherine (Cat) Lucas originally volunteered at The Red Barn for a day with the NSCS club at UAB. Cat recently told us, "As an aspiring physical therapist, volunteering as a sidewalker and seeing the riding lessons gave me a new perspective on how equine therapy can be utilized. I also happen to love animals, so spending time around the horses was exciting. I will continue to volunteer at The Red Barn because of the atmosphere and the genuine care the employees have for all who participate in lessons and events (including the volunteers)." Cat continues to serve our families with a big heart and we are honored to have her with us!
Lydia and Rebekah Ferrill are twin sisters who have been with us for a long time. They started with us as students, but soon took their love for horses and kids and began to serve. They always come through in a pinch and we couldn't do Wednesdays without them!
Karen Evans heard about The Red Barn through her friend Jeff Morrison. He knew of her love for horses and she knew this was an opportunity to serve the Lord. She has always loved horses and has six of her own. When she started volunteering at The Red Barn in February 2015 she began as a sidewalker and loved how the horses served our students. She is now part of our Instructor in Training program and hopes to become an instructor soon. She's added so much to the barn and is willing to do anything, ready to learn, and ready help make sure new volunteers feel welcomed. She always makes The Red Barn a happy place for our families!
Kyra Forman lights up the barn and every heart she touches. She is graduating from Samford with a degree in Sociology and will be starting nursing school this fall. She's been a fabulous intern this spring and is willing to do anything that is asked of her - from cleaning a stall, dusting the tack room, and being silly with our students! She promises to keep coming out to the barn even when her internship is over. Let's hold her to it!
Hannah Harrison interned with us this summer and we hated to see her go back to Mississippi because she was such an awesome part of our team! Her dedication and hard work kept us all motivated and we wish her best of luck back in Mississippi.
Taylor Sharbel is a senior at JCIB this year. She's willing to do anything for the students we serve. Her horse skills have excelled over the summer because of her willingness to learn. Taylor, you have been a blessing and we love having you at the barn!
Whenever Angela Anderson sees a need, she fills it with all of her heart. She started volunteering with us in 2015 and has done just about it all! She has helped with weekly lessons, as well as camps. She's is now also serving on our Take the Reins 10K committee, seeking sponsors, donations, and spreading the word about the race. We couldn't do our day-to-day work without her servant's heart.
Every year we have the honor of working with students from UAB's OT department. Meet Lacie, Theresa, and Laykn. They have worked with us since the summer of 2015 and focused on creating materials that will help us better serve the families at The Red Barn. While volunteering, they were very flexible and always had a listening ear for our families. They will be graduating this May, but will always be a part of our barn family!
